BETH TIGAY JOINS SPARK IN LOS ANGELES
Seasoned Educator and Nonprofit Leader becomes Executive Director
Beth Tigay, a seasoned educator with a background as both a middle school teacher and a school administrator is a perfect match to lead Spark in Los Angeles. After two decades of experience as a middle school teacher and administrator in Los Angeles, Tigay became a non-profit leader as the California Director of Moving Traditions, an organization that offers mentorship and empowerment opportunities to adolescents. There Tigay oversaw programming, development, and external affairs. Previously, Tigay served as Head of Middle School of Larchmont Charter School, a top-ranking, innovative charter school, and as the Humanities Department Chair and Middle School Dean at Milken Community High School. Prior to becoming an educator, Tigay ran a division at an advertising agency. Tigay has a degree in English from UCLA and is finishing her MBA at American Jewish University’s Graduate School of Non-Profit Management.
In discussing the move to Spark, Tigay said, “I’m thrilled to be joining the Spark team. Spark’s model and mission combine two of my greatest passions: adolescent development and mentorship. The Possibility Movement offers incredible opportunities to middle schoolers, the adults who mentor them, and the community at large!”
Jeanette Castellanos, Chief Executive Officer of Spark, said “I am very excited to have Beth Tigay lead the way in continuing to grow Spark in Los Angeles. We currently partner with six schools, more than 25 leading companies across the city, and hundreds of mentors and supporters in the region. Together we are expanding The Possibility Movement in LA! With the support of our boards, our partners and Beth’s leadership we will be able to partner with many more students.”
Spark is a Career Exploration and Self-Discovery Program that gives middle school students opportunities to understand, experience and pursue what’s possible for their future. Spark is leading The Possibility Movement by bringing together diverse communities of families, schools and companies who care, share, teach and inspire. Spark Lab, Spark Mentorship and Spark High School Pathways use workplace experiences, mentoring and guided support to help students in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia explore careers, build skills and find the right path to a successful future.
